Think about your writing strengths and challenges and decide what kind of feedback you are interested in getting. Do you need help with a main idea or thesis sentence? The Writing Commons creates networks in which faculty come together to support one another in writing efforts. Through collaboration the Writing Commons consolidates writing instruction resources and materials tailored to the needs of Air University AU faculty.

Faculty from across AU schools and programs expressed interest in the following topics: Responding to Student Writing: This section presents faculty with principles, strategies, and best practices for responding to student writing. The section also emphasizes that effective feedback moves students from novice to expert writers. Additionally, this section conveys the importance of using consistent vocabulary in responding to the major components of academic writing.

Lastly, faculty will find practical advice on commenting using several types of responses. This section discusses how to plan and guide student peer review in the classroom and highlights several strategies, guidelines, techniques, and activities that faculty will find useful in conducting student peer review. Designing Effective Writing Assignments: This section discusses how to design writing assignments to ensure students grow as writers and thinkers.

If you're not in college, you can use a computer at your public library. Who can use it? It was developed by the Learning Center primarily for D'Youville College students who want to become better writers by learning and applying the rules of grammar and punctuation.

However, in the spirit of St. Marguerite D'Youville, who always gave generously of her time and resources, the College has chosen to share its Online Writing Lab with anyone who finds it useful. It is set up so you or your students can read the instructional presentations on any area of writing and independently complete the exercises online.

So, no matter who you are or what your writing problem is, you can find individual help right here. How exactly can it help me? Let's say you attend a high school or a college other than D'Youville, and your instructor has told you that you need help with fragments.

Instead of hiring a private tutor, you can click on the index and then click on "fragments," and you can read the brief instructional presentations on fragments which include examples of what a fragment is.
